Created during a fraught time politically in the United States, “The Beginning of Nothing” rages at the collective ennui and apathy of fellow citizens co-existing in a world gone haywire. Therapy it is not, but is however a purging of sorts: in order for the artist to move forward, one must at least attempt to extricate oneself from these patterns of spiralling, paranoid thinking, of patterns that are wholly unhealthy and dangerously corrosive. Created as a sort of score to an internal elegy, Yves Malone soundtracks the daily fear, regret, and resignation that is his waking life, an effort to isolate and negate this anxiety, which is a constant and unwanted companion. Sequenced on mostly-working vintage gear, “The Beginning of Nothing” tries to extricate a bit of beauty in a rapidly darkening landscape.
